Methods of decontamination of drinking water.

The term "decontamination" or "disinfection" of water means purifying water from pathogens in order to maintain epidemiological safety and prevent the spread of infectious diseases. It is difficult to dispute the importance of this process, because at the dawn of civilization our ancestors realized the connection of contaminated water with the emergence of epidemics.

Depending on the method of exposure to microorganisms, reagent, reagenta and combined methods of water decontamination are secreted.

Reagent methods of water disinfection include: chlorination;; water zoning; water bromion; silver water treatment (silver water); water iodizing.

Non-reactive methods of water decontamination include: decontamination of water by ultraviolet light; Ultrasonic water treatment Exposure to vacuum Exposure to radiation; thermal treatment.

Combined methods involve simultaneous chemical and physical effects on water.

Unfortunately, the high efficiency and cheapness of this method of water disinfection are its only advantages, as chlorine produces an unenterdent effect on the health of the population. In the process of chlorine reaction with humine compounds in water, products of life of some microorganisms and man-made substances, in water formed highly toxic compounds that enter the human body not only through drinking water, but also during bodily contact with water (soul, bathroom, pool, etc.).

Therefore, it is very important to find methods of water disinfection, alternative to chlorination.

 

Ozone Ozone is a very strong oxidizer that can destroy all microbes in the water, even those that chlorine and ultraviolet radiation cannot cope with. Compared to chlorination, ozone has a lot of advantages. Ozone more effectively fights against microorganisms, has no taste and smell, does not have a detrimental effect on human health, as excess ozone has a tendency to turn into oxygen, the zoning process is not so much dependent on water quality (mutity, pH, temperature, etc.).

Silver because silver has bactericidal properties, it can be used for disinfecting water.

The decontamination of water by silver is carried out by ensuring the contact of water with the surface of the metal or in the process of dissolving silver under the influence of electrolytic current. At the same time, silver, along with lead, arsenic, cobalt and others, is considered to be a heavy metal with a risk to human health, and the extent of this danger has not yet been fully studied.

 

Decontamination of water by ultraviolet light can be safely called the most effective and environmentally friendly method of decontamination. Bactericidal properties of ultraviolet rays have long been widely known.

A significant advantage of this method of water decontamination is the speed of the disinfection process, lack of taste, smell, preservation of organoleptic qualities of water.

There is no danger of OVER-radiation, as the use of an increased dose of ultraviolet light has no detrimental effect on human health.

Experts of sanitary and epidemiological services in Ukraine believe that today decontamination of water by ultraviolet radiation is the best method of preparing drinking water.
